How much does driveway paving cost?

Would you like to have your driveway paved, but  have no idea what costs you should consider? We can help you with that! This article contains a detailed overview of all the costs you should consider when your driveway is paved!

What does paving a driveway cost?

The cost of paving a driveway is mainly in the materials used. The bricks, often clinkers, cost an average of £50to  £60 per m². This price depends on the type of stones you choose. Concrete pavers, for example, are much cheaper than baked pavers.

Besides the clinkers’ price, you must also consider the costs of fill sand and curbstones. Fill sand costs approximately £40to £60 per cubic meter. For curbstones, you pay an average of £6 per linear meter.

Do you want to outsource the job to a professional? A road worker costs approximately £30to  £55 per hour or  £ 12 to  £ 20 per m². For that price, you can be sure that the driveway paving will be installed excellently and will remain in place for a long time.

We have made many specific price examples to give you an even better idea of the average costs you should consider when paving your driveway. Relating to the following:

Cheapest choice. If you want to have your driveway paved as cheaply as possible, you will opt for paving with a simple laying pattern of concrete walls. In this case, you should consider a cost of between £16 and £20pounds per square meter for the pavers and between £22 and £30 pounds for pavers.

Better quality. When you need a ramp with a little more weight, it is often more interesting to choose better quality. In this case, you can choose to use a laying pattern with fried waltzes. Baked has a higher rate than regular clinkers, but a higher cost price accompanies this better quality. If you wish to pave a driveway with a baked driveway, you can consider a price of about £20 to £40 pounds for the tiles (per square meter) and between £40 and £60 pounds per square meter for the road worker.

Most luxurious choice. There is also a third possibility. In this situation, you opt for a real luxury option in the form of a complicated laying pattern consisting of baked concrete. In contrast to the previous two price examples, the paver will probably charge an hourly rate instead of a fixed price per square meter. The hourly wage of a paver is usually between £40 and £55 pounds.

The price structure of paving your driveway

A cost price will be charged for paving your driveway, which consists of two parts. That concerns 75 percent of labor costs and 25 percent of material costs. Because the work costs are so high, it is relatively easy to realize your final invoice’s savings.

Choices that affect the price of paving your driveway

Before ordering a road worker to pave your driveway, it is essential to consider that different choice can directly impact the overall cost you will be confronted with. It concerns the following matters:

Choice 1: The type of tile
As indicated earlier on this page, you can choose from different types of tiles. The most common are the concrete driveway and baked driveway, but other possibilities on the market.

Concrete Driveway:

In the first instance, there is a concrete driveway. These clinkers are cheaper than baked ones. That is because the production process for concrete Waaljes can proceed much faster. You should also take into account that there is a structural quality difference between both types of tiles. You can also opt for a driveway that is made entirely of concrete or that has a wear layer. After all, when they have a wear layer, the tiles are protected against the effects of the weather’s ultraviolet radiation. An additional advantage is that concrete Waaljes are in principle available in almost any color. You should take into account the price of between 12 and 20pounds per square meter.

Baked Driveway:

These clinkers have a better quality compared to concrete made entirely of concrete. They are not only characterized by better quality, but also by a higher cost price. You can choose to purchase baked clinkers in various colors but also different thicknesses. Please note that the clay used in the baking process determines this type of tiles’ color.

Other tiles:

In addition to clinkers, it is also possible to use other tiles for paving your driveway. However, most people choose clinkers because they are sturdy and have a thickness of at least 7 centimeters. This thickness is necessary to ensure that the weight of cars can be carried without any problem. In other words, if you want to choose a different tile, always make sure that it also has a sufficient thickness.

Choice 2: Hire a road worker or not?
The second choice you need to make is whether or not to hire a road worker. When you have a driveway constructed, it is essential to consider that it must be adequately and securely laid. A ramp has the function of almost always carrying a heavyweight (in the form of cars). A road worker is a real craftsman who therefore has various materials to ensure that, for example, no tiles have to be lifted. If you choose to hire a road worker, you will, of course, have to take into account a specific additional cost, but on the other hand, you can save yourself a lot of time and effort. A fixed price per square meter is usually charged for a standard pattern.

Choice  3: Any extra options
Finally, you can use several extra options to have your driveway paved. Of course, these also influence the final cost that you will have to pay.

Gravel driveway

Would you instead not use stones but opt for gravel? You may then opt for a more economical way of installing a driveway that probably fits better with the rest of the garden. Gravel can often be combined very nicely with other elements from the garden. To prevent many cars from getting stuck in the rock, a road worker uses special gravel plates when laying the driveway. The downside of stone? It is more challenging to maintain because of leaves and, for example, sand that can get between the rock.

Interesting saving tips

Are you also going to have your driveway paved, and would you especially like to do that at the lowest possible price? In that case, it is always interesting to take the following saving tips into account:

Choose a road worker from the area.

Itis always interesting to use t road worker’s services from the area in the first instance. That ensures that the so-called call-out costs are limited and, also, the supply and removal of material take considerably less time.

Take some work off the road worker.

If possible, try to help the road worker. This way, it will take less time to pave your driveway, and you will feel that in the final cost. For example, an excellent idea is to remove the old tiles, plants, and excess soil yourself.

Quantity discount.

Does your neighbor also consider having (new) paving laid? In that case, you can choose to provide the work jointly to a specific road worker. This way, you will always be able to count on an exciting discount of around 10 percent. Please note that the amount of the quantity discount you will receive can strongly depend on your choice’s road builder. A fair comparison is, therefore, the message!
